Seattle Startup Ontela Raises $10M

Congrats to our buddies over at Ontela. The Seattle-PI is reporting today that Ontela has closed a $10M "Series B" round of financing.

We've written about Ontela before - but for those of you who need a reminder - Ontela's goal in life is to make it easier to get pictures off your cell phone.

By installing the Ontela PicDeck application on your cell phone, when you take pictures, it "auto-magically" uploads these pictures to your PC, email, and favorite imaging sites (Photobucket, etc.)

Ontela's business strategy is to partner with Wireless Carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) and if you're on Alltel, Cellular South or Cincinnati Bell, their service is available. I've been told that other carriers will be added soon as well.

We're also hoping that Ontela embraces the growing off-deck market for downloadable cell phone applications. While partnering with the carriers to get distribution is obvious and the right decision, many consumers would have an easier time discovering about cool products like PicDeck if they were marketed through other channels as well.

I'm sure they'll allocate some of their $$ warchest to work on things like this. In any event, this is great news and we are excited to hear about their continued success!
