Cro-Mag Rally - iPhone Game Review

Had a chance to play Cro-Mag Rally from Pangea Software last night. It is an enjoyable caveman themed racing game for the iPhone or iPod touch. And with 9 tracks, 11 vehicles, 9 power-ups and a variety of prehistoric weapons, there's enough variety to keep you interested for a long time. It's a lot of fun, and at the current price of $1.99 it's a good bargain too.

To play, you begin by choosing one of the two race "modes." In the standard race mode, the object is to beat three other cave people in a three lap race; in the gather mode, the object is to gather arrowheads by running over them (while you race three other cave people).

Next you choose one of the 11 available vehicles and one of the 9 available tracks and you choose your driver, either Brog the caveman or Grag the cavewoman.

Once you tap your driver, the race starts and the gameplay is pretty standard - tilt your iPhone left or right to steer, and you touch the accelerator, brake, and thrower icons to go, stop, or throw a weapon. Simply drive as fast as you can, run over as many power-ups and weapons as you can, and get ahead of the three other vehicles.

On screen indicators show you your place in the race (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th), what lap you're on, and a map showing all four vehicles on the track.

Cro-Mag Rally also lets you adjust the steering sensitivity, which is a nice feature. And, unlike some other racing games, Cro-Mag Rally gives you a choice of difficulty settings -- Easy, Medium, or Hard -- so you can have fun regardless of your skill level.

I found it to be pretty tricky at first as you have to get used to the steering sensitivity and I found myself quite often going the wrong way on the track. After awhile I started to figure it out and kept going in the right direction. The sound and graphics are great and for $2 it's a no-brainer. Apparently lot of other folks agree as it's a popular game in the AppStore and if you like driving games, you should check it out.

Buy it on Cro-Mag Rally
