Seattle based Cequint announced that U.S. Cellular is introducing improved call screening for mobile subscribers with the launch of City ID – an enhanced Caller ID feature which displays the city and state of incoming calls.
City ID is a patent-protected Caller ID feature that automatically displays the city and state beneath the number of every wireless call received. The application features over 20,000 specific cities in the U.S. and Canada, listing towns with as few as 700 people.
“Unless someone is saved into the mobile phone’s address book, subscribers only have a number to try and guess who’s calling them,” said Edward Perez, Sr. Director, Product Development and Management. “City ID gives U.S. Cellular subscribers that additional piece of information that helps identify the incoming caller.”
This is the third major carrier win for Cequint, having previously announced deals with both Verizon and Alltel. It looks like they have wrapped up the CDMA/BREW carriers in the US and we'll eagerly await news on the GSM/J2ME guys like AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.
Available starting in November on the LG UX585 and Samsung Delve R800, U.S. Cellular subscribers will receive a complimentary 15-day trial of the application beginning with the first incoming call. After the free trial, customers can subscribe to City ID for $1.99 per month or a one-time purchase of $34.99, added directly to their cell phone bill.
